Meet the team

Hello from the Falmouth Haven team! Throughout the summer season during working hours you’ll usually find us attending both the Slipway and the Marina – or look out for us greeting visitors on our launch “Arwenack”. Our office base at 44 Arwenack Street (right next to the Quayside Inn) is also always staffed during office hours, at any time of year.

Our staff

Barry Buist

Name Barry Buist

Position General Manager

Responsibility “I’m responsible for making sure that all aspects of Falmouth Haven run effectively and have the customer at their heart, ensuring that all our guests get the very best from their time here.”

Who am I? “I moved down to Cornwall from Scotland as a young lad and I have loved being by the water ever since. My father used to own a small sailing boat which was moored in the Penryn River, although nowadays you are more likely to see me braving the waves on my kayak or bodyboard at the beach with my family.”

Sue Cocks

Name Sue Cocks

Position Accounts Manager

Responsibility “I manage all aspects of our leisure business accounts as well as overseeing recruitment, including managing seasonal staff. In addition to this I handle the general administration to ensure everything runs smoothly – and that includes keeping the boys in the office on the straight and narrow…”

Who am I? “Boating is a big part of my family history. My father, grandfather and uncle were oystermen plying their trade in the Fal, making me the third generation of Falmouth Working Boat sailors. My husband and I occasionally take to the water in our boat, catching some rays of sunshine and the occasional fish. We are also training up our grandson to take the helm… When not on the water I walk and enjoy swimming.”

Martyn Rosevear

Name Martyn Rosevear

Position Services Manager

Responsibility “I’m responsible for ensuring facilities are as safe as possible and are maintained to a high standard, as well as managing the allocation of moorings and berths. I also liaise with event organisers of rallies and flotillas where necessary, and handle any customer queries or problems.”

Who am I? “Some of my earliest memories are of paddling around at Mylor in a dinghy with a long painter, which attached me to my parents ashore. I went on to be a keen Sea Scout on the Helford River, spending many happy hours exploring the creeks by boat. Family holidays were often spent cruising the South of England and the coast of Brittany, and I also lived onboard a small yacht while studying at Plymouth University, and again when I moved to London with my then girlfriend, now wife. After five years spent working on the Thames helping people to get afloat, the call of Cornwall became too strong and I returned home. Today I enjoy local club racing, even if I don’t feature in the results table much.”

Mark Bryant

Name Mark Bryant

Position Services Supervisor

Responsibility “I supervise the day-to-day running of the Falmouth Haven facilities as well as helping with the training and development of the team. Reporting safety issues and recommending improvements where necessary is also an essential part of my remit, and generally assisting the team to give customers an enjoyable and memorable experience of Falmouth Haven. I also brew delicious tea.”

Who am I? “I have enjoyed many years on and in the water from surfing and sailing on the Isle of Wight, where I grew up, to teaching sailing and windsurfing on the Greek islands of Paxos and Levkas. These days I am mostly to be found pottering around the creeks (and watering holes) of the Carrick Roads in my small motor boat. A previous life in the wine trade also allows me to give pretty decent wine recommendations.”

Demelza Knights

Name Demelza Knights

Position Sales and Business Development Assistant

Responsibility "My primary role is to look at business development opportunities for Falmouth Haven by working with our customers, suppliers and other organisations. I also strive to create a positive awareness of Falmouth Haven through the use of marketing and social media."

Who am I? "My love of travel and the sea started in my formative years and I subsequently chose to work in the Travel, Leisure and Tourism industry, spending several years working abroad. In my spare time, I like to pursue sailing, surfing, swimming or kayaking. I am also a local co-ordinator for a national charity which enables me to travel throughout the UK."
